A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
    from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. – Isaiah 11:1

“We extend a special welcome to everyone – whether you’ve been here five years, five weeks, or you came in five minutes ago.

You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up, or just got out of jail. You are welcome here if you’re more Catholic than St John Paul II, or haven’t been in a church since little Matthew’s baptism.

We welcome those who are single, married, divorced, gay, rich, poor, white, black, Asian, Middle Eastern o no habla Ingles.

We welcome those who are over 40 but not grown up and teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters, people who stay up too late and even Cubs fans.

If you’re having problems, down in the dumps, or blew all your offering money at the casino, you’re welcome here. We welcome those who work too hard, can’t spell, or had religion shoved down their throat as a kid.

We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now. We welcome you no matter your background. The Catholic Church is a haven where we all struggle with our imperfections.

We are one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic in our desire for unity in Christ who calls us together. It’s his spirit who welcomes you today. May we all grow in him, together.”

This is an excerpt from a lengthier version of this statement read by a priest in West Lafayette, Indiana, and it reflects the open community that From His Roots aims to provide for all men who participate in our community. Simply put, this is an online community of men who recognize who we are, and who we are not, and who are united all the same in our goal to grow in our faith.

Often, the most rewarding way to use the Bible is to not only read it, but to discuss it with others to see how it spoke to them as well. However, many of us lack the community, the time, or the openness necessary to discuss Faith together in a small group setting consistently. This is especially true when living in a Catholic community that lacks a solid, established ministry, or when moving to new locations where we don’t know many other people, let alone people with whom we are comfortable diving into faith-charged conversations.

From His Roots aims to form that community at a national level. Our writers are from multiple states and backgrounds. This is a community I expect will transcend all backgrounds, just as Scripture is intended for us all. The more diversity in the community the better. We all benefit from one another’s perspectives. The wider our community spreads, the more useful it will be in helping Catholic men connect with others as we help each other grow in Faith.

Every day, a reflection will be posted and sent out from one of our writers that is based off of the daily readings of the Catholic Church. Together, we will open up our bibles each day, and contemplate the Word. So please, join us!

A very special welcome to you as you join our brotherhood.
